Consultant Psychiatrist in Melbourne
Dr Mahesh Jayaram is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Melbourne and a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne. He is the coordinator for the Masters of Psychiatry course. He completed his Psychiatry training in the UK and worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist for 7 years in the NHS. He set up and managed a fully functional multidisciplinary community mental health team providing secondary care mental health services. He moved to Melbourne in August 2013 and works in a variety of roles. His time is split between his University commitments, public hospital commitments and private work.
At the University of Melbourne, he is based at Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre and his areas of research interest include developing novel treatments for schizophrenia, developing guidelines for treatment of people who have suffered from Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), developing relapse prevention strategies for schizophrenia and inform policy making through his role as editor of Cochrane Schizophrenia Group. He is also actively involved in teaching and development of online course modules for the Masters of Psychiatry students and medical students. He works as a general psychiatrist at Mid West Area Mental Health service and privately at Essendon Private Hospital and Wyndham Clinic Private Hospital. He is an active researcher with over $1.5 million in grant funding and has published over 30 peer reviewed publications. He is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences.
